Most axes in period illustrations and extant artifacts that fall under this category possess Petersen type L or type M heads. These are typically wider overall and have a broader toe and heel of the bit for superior shearing capability.
The axe head from Mammen displays a tree motif that can be interpreted as both pagan (Yggdrasil) and Christian (Tree of Life). This could indicate the owner’s status.
Hemming’s Axe
A beastly weapon with high impact madness statistics, this axe is great for those who prefer to play like a wolf. It can be obtained by visiting Saint Helen’s Spring in Lincolnscire and defeating the enemy sitting on the throne. This axe also has the perk that boosts its attack stats when three or more enemies are surrounding you, which is helpful during those situations where your health is down and you’re trying to finish off a boss or legendary animal.

This axe can be acquired after you complete the quest “Viking for Hire” given to you by Reda. It can be paired with any shield, sword or other axe in the same hand to enhance your combat performance.
If you want to see an example of how a Dane axe can change the course of battle, you need look no further than the famous Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1141. A Norse axeman was recorded to have single-handedly cut down up to 40 Englishmen with his axe. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle described the axeman as wearing a Viking helmet and armor, and wielding what looked to be a standard battle axe.
A very useful axe that is available early in the game, this weapon formerly belonged to Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan. It can be acquired after you’ve retaken Grantebridge and completed the quests that Soma has presented to you. You can find this axe at Offchurch’s crypt in Ledecescire and defeat the guard to get it.
The axe’s stats aren’t as good as some of the other weapons you will have acquired at this point in the game. However, its perk that increases the chances of landing a heavy hit while at low health is more than enough to offset this drawback.
Calder’s Fury
Calder’s Fury is one of the new weapons available with the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Dwarven Axe
When the dwarves of the north were divided by treachery and greed, one young prince set out to create a symbol that would unite his people. Venturing deeper underground than anyone had before, he forged a weapon that could do just that. A powerful axe that would strike fear into the hearts of even the most mighty monsters. This weapon was known as the Dwarven Axe, and it was said to grant its wielder a blessing from Moradin himself.
This Dane Axe can be acquired after defeating Calder in the Blazing a Trail quest and looting it from his corpse. Its stats are fairly good and it does have a perk that increases Heavy Damage when close to full health, which is quite useful when fighting a boss or legendary animal.
Players can also acquire this Dane Axe through the Machines of War quest. It can also be purchased from Major Mary Rancour by saying that you lost your Dwarven army axe. Once equipped, the Dwarven Axe will replace any steel hatchet, bronze pickaxe, needle, tinderbox, chisel or knife in the player’s inventory or tool belt, regardless of their tier.

The axe grants a 3x increase in the experience earned from chopping down trees, mining ores, smelting metals, and cooking lobsters. It also grants a 3x increase in all attack and damage rolls made with the axe. Moreover, the axe can be used to summon an Earth Elemental for a short period of time. The Dwarven Axe is arguably the best Dane Axe in RuneScape, as it provides many benefits for players of any skill level.
Superior Dane Axe
The Superior Dane Axe is a two-handed axe that Eivor can use to cleave through human and bestial foes alike. It does good damage against health and moderate damage to stamina, which makes it a great battlefield companion.
It also has a nice perk that increases light damage on low health enemies, which is perfect for those times when you need to deplete a boss or legendary animal’s health before they can land their first attack.
However, the axe can be a little underwhelming for some players at times, particularly when it comes to its abilities. It gets swipe at level five, which is a bit underwhelming because it only gives the player the ability to hit three enemies in an arc, without giving them the chance to deal armour-piercing damage. The spear, on the other hand, gains extend at level one which lets them make a slightly lower-damage attack three tiles away while also preventing them from being subjected to an attack of opportunity the next turn.
While it may not be as effective at close range as the spear, the dane axe still does a decent job of slicing through armor and shields. It can even break the rings of maille and shatter helmets. The only real drawback is its slow attack speed and relatively large stamina drain, especially when used in combination with heavy attacks.
The dane axe is also a bit difficult to parry due to its size and clunky animations. While a skilled player can use it to rip through armour and stun enemies, it takes quite some practice and finesse to master the art of defending against the blade’s ferocity.
The Superior Dane Axe can be found by exploring the Eurviscire area of Jorvik, specifically in a location called Housesteads where you will encounter a broken wall opposite a pond and a chest nearby. This is where you will find Lagertha’s Axe, which is a Flawless Dane Axe that can be used to complete this mission. You can also find a Superior Heavy Shield here that does a good job of absorbing heavy hits from your opponents.
